Butt Fusion and Flanged Connections

The installation of a polyethylene stub end involves two key steps: butt fusion welding and mechanical bolting. First, the spigot end of the stub end is welded to the HDPE pipe using a butt fusion machine. This process heats both ends to their melting point before pressing them together under controlled pressure, creating a continuous, homogenous joint. Once welded, a steel backing ring (placed on the stub end prior to welding) is bolted to a matching flange on a valve, pump, or metal pipe. This creates a highly secure, removable joint that does not compromise the leak-free integrity of the PE line.
